War Paint

The project consists of three parts:
*performance
*photoshoot
*photomanipulation

People are asked to write down all their fears, demons and bad things onto their faces but only those things that they want to face. People are making all decisions about text, colour, placement and content by themselves. How much or less they want to expose is up to them. It’s a ritual, where it has meaning as long person believes in it. Similar rituals were practised in many cultures. The face as the most visible area of a body often was marked with colours, lines and scars. The face is something that defines us and makes us more unique. Therefore marking and changing this area has lots of meanings and makes us feel different feelings and emotions. It’s a ritual of our identities modification.During the photo-shoot, people are asked to be natural or as they want, it’s all up to them. The freedom to express the things what they wrote down.
From all photographs I selected only one from each individual, the selection is based on intuition, I usually select photo what seems most honest to me. All selected photos are manipulated, abstracted, altered and combined with other photos or found footage. With this photo manipulation, I’m showing a constant battle between nature and humankind. The photographs were shown at Islington Art Factory, London and at Middlesex University, London.
